Okpebholo Tables ₦939.85bn 2026 Budget Before Edo Assembly

Governor Monday Okpebholo has presented a ₦939.85 billion budget proposal for the 2026 fiscal year to the Edo State House of Assembly, outlining his administration’s spending priorities for the coming year.

Presenting the estimates during plenary, the governor said the proposed budget is designed to accelerate economic growth, strengthen infrastructure, and improve service delivery across key sectors of the state’s economy.

According to the proposal, a substantial portion of the budget is allocated to capital expenditure, with emphasis on road construction, education, healthcare, agriculture, security, and job creation. The remaining allocation is dedicated to recurrent expenditure, including personnel costs and the day-to-day operations of government institutions.

Okpebholo explained that the 2026 budget was prepared against the backdrop of current economic realities and is aimed at consolidating development initiatives while addressing pressing social and economic challenges facing the state.

He urged members of the House of Assembly to give the proposal prompt and objective consideration in the interest of timely budget passage and effective implementation.

In their response, lawmakers commended the governor for presenting the budget early and assured him of thorough legislative scrutiny. They pledged to work collaboratively with the executive arm to ensure that the final budget reflects the needs and aspirations of Edo residents.

The presentation of the budget marks the beginning of the legislative process that will lead to its eventual passage into law, subject to review, public hearings, and approval by the Assembly.
