Osun LG funds: APC Vice Chairmen Demand Account of 13 months’ Allocations from Adeleke

The Forum of Local Government Vice Chairmen in Osun State, elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, has called on Governor Ademola Adeleke to give an account of local government allocations received over a 13-month period.

The demand was contained in a statement signed by the forum’s chairman, Victor Fatoki, and made available to journalists in Osogbo on Friday. The group alleged that more than ₦200 billion was received by local government councils in the state between December 2022 and January 2025.

According to the forum, there is little evidence on the ground to justify the volume of funds allegedly allocated to councils during the period under review. It urged the governor to demonstrate transparency by publicly accounting for how the funds were utilised.

“We are calling on Governor Ademola Adeleke to account for the funds accrued to Osun local governments between December 2022 and January 2025,” the statement said.

The group cited several councils, including Atakunmosa East, Ila, Ifedayo, Boluwaduro and Obokun, claiming that visible projects or interventions did not reflect the scale of allocations reportedly received.

“This raises serious concerns about financial management and governance at the grassroots. We are surprised by the governor’s insistence on demanding the release of allocations he claims were withheld by the Federal Government for 11 months, while showing little interest in accounting for over ₦200 billion already received between 2023 and 2024,” the statement added.

Reacting, the Osun State Government dismissed the forum’s claims, describing the group as unknown to the law and unworthy of official response. Speaking through his deputy spokesperson, Oladele Bamiji, Governor Adeleke said the group was merely seeking attention and warned against actions capable of disrupting public order in the state.

“There is nothing like a Forum of Vice Chairmen elected on the platform of any political party. Unknown entities to the law cannot accord themselves legal standing they do not have,” the governor said.

He added that the administration would not be distracted by individuals or groups allegedly intent on causing confusion and unrest in the state, insisting that the government does not recognise the forum or its claims.

Meanwhile, the dispute comes amid an ongoing legal and political battle between the Osun State Government and the opposition APC over the control of local government councils. Both sides are currently engaged in multiple court cases over council resources, a situation that has reportedly stalled local government administration since February 2025, when the crisis escalated.
