Kebbi sets up Panel to Probe Abandoned Governor’s Lodge, Hotel Project in Kaduna

Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has approved the establishment of a high-powered committee to investigate the long-abandoned Kebbi State Governor’s Lodge and hotel project located in Kaduna State.
The move signals a renewed effort by the state government to address lingering concerns surrounding the project, which dates back to the era of military administration and has remained uncompleted for several years.
The approval, conveyed through the Office of the Secretary to the State Government to Yakubu Tafida, mandates the committee to examine the legal status of the project and determine whether the contractor reconciled with the Kebbi State Government, as earlier advised by the then Solicitor-General, following the revocation of the contract.
The panel is also expected to assess the present condition of the abandoned site, investigate the circumstances that led to the revocation of the contract, establish the reasons for the prolonged abandonment, and verify both the original and revised contract sums awarded for the project.
The committee is to be chaired by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Birnin Kebbi. Other members include the Special Adviser on Due Process, Surajo Bagudo; the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Lands and Housing, Ahmad Yarima; and the Director of Architecture and Building in the Ministry of Works. The Director of EXCO, Kabiru Wasagu, will serve as Secretary to the committee.
The panel has been given a two-week deadline to complete its assignment and submit a detailed report to the state government.
Governor Idris reiterated his administration’s zero-tolerance stance on waste and neglect of public assets, stressing that abandoned government projects must be carefully reviewed and decisively addressed in the overall interest of the people of Kebbi State.
The decision, according to the government, reflects the administration’s broader commitment to transparency, accountability, and strict adherence to due process in the management of public resources.
