PDP BoT Rejects Ibadan Court Ruling, Affirms Turaki-led NWC

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed the judgment of the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan on the party’s November 2025 national convention, describing it as academic and without practical effect.

The BoT’s position was contained in a statement issued on Friday and signed by its Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara. According to the trustees, the ruling does not affect the legitimacy or status of the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC), as the substantive issues are already before the Court of Appeal.

“The Board of Trustees notes that the judgment is technically of no effect and, at best, academic, as the central and fundamental issues in the matter are already before the Court of Appeal,” the statement said.

The BoT also expressed concern that the trial court granted reliefs that were not requested by any of the parties involved in the suit.

“It is however a matter of concern that the court, in declining the order of mandamus sought by our party, went beyond the boundaries to grant reliefs that were not prayed for by any of the parties in the case,” the statement added.

The trustees disclosed that the PDP has since filed a Notice of Appeal as well as a Motion for Stay of Execution, actions which they said have effectively placed the judgment on hold.

“This development puts the judgment of the Federal High Court, Ibadan, in abeyance and retains the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee, which was duly elected at the Ibadan Convention, legally and firmly in place,” the BoT stated.

Reassuring party members and supporters, the BoT said there was no cause for alarm, stressing that as the conscience and second-highest organ of the PDP, it remains confident in the party’s legal position.

“The Turaki-led NWC is securely in place,” Wabara affirmed.

The BoT further reiterated its support for the current party leadership, noting that the Turaki-led NWC remains focused on stabilizing and repositioning the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“The Board reaffirms its commitment and support for the Turaki-led NWC in its efforts to strengthen the party and place it firmly on the path to victory ahead of the 2027 general elections,” the statement concluded.

Recall that the Federal High Court in Ibadan had nullified the PDP National Convention held on November 15 and 16, 2025, and restrained Turaki and others from presenting themselves as national officers of the party. Turaki, reacting earlier to the ruling, had described it as academic and inconsistent with subsisting orders of courts of coordinate jurisdiction, adding that the matter is now before the Court of Appeal.

He maintained that the National Working Committee produced by the Ibadan convention remains legally intact pending the final determination of the appellate court.
