INEC Disclaims Circulating 2027 Election Timetable

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed as false a timetable for the 2027 General Election currently circulating on social media and other platforms.

In a statement issued in Abuja, the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Mr. Adedayo Oketola, said the commission has not released any timetable or schedule of activities for the 2027 polls.

Oketola described the document being circulated as fake and misleading, stressing that it did not originate from INEC.

“The commission wishes to make it clear that the information in circulation is false,” he said. “INEC has not issued any timetable or schedule of activities for the 2027 General Election.”

He explained that the commission operates strictly within the framework of existing electoral laws, noting that Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022, requires INEC to publish a Notice of Election not later than 360 days before the date of polling.

According to him, any timetable released outside the provisions of the law cannot be attributed to the commission.

Oketola assured Nigerians that the official timetable for the 2027 General Election would be announced at the appropriate time and in full compliance with the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and the Electoral Act, 2022.

He added that when the timetable is eventually released, it would be communicated through INEC’s verified and official channels.

The commission also urged members of the public and the media to rely solely on INEC’s authorized platforms for accurate and credible information on electoral matters.
